“A day will come when my voice will sound so loud all over Nigeria and the world of it, when I will be able to make a way for other girls to have their own louding voice, because I know that when I finish my education, I will find a way to help them to go to school.”
I first read about this book somewhere on Instagram, and I’m so thankful I did.
Abi Daré has written a beautiful story that appeals to both secondary students and teachers! The novel follows Adunni, a 14-year-old Nigerian girl who begins this coming-of-age story by marrying someone against her will.
From there, we accompany Adunni on her journey of getting her “louding voice”—educated enough to be heard.
This book is for, quite frankly everyone, but anyone wanting to:
explore a different worldview
be moved by the strength of someone who has the world set up against them
loves haunting imagery and beautiful dialect
