If you’re like us, you may be collecting books for your classroom this summer. How are you planning to organize them and show off those new titles? Our classroom library game changer: labeled front-facing book bins!
This is not just an elementary strategy; we have found that students are checking out more books than ever since we made this change in our secondary classrooms, organizing and labeling the books by genre. We won’t lie: there is some work involved, but the books will fly off your shelves. So. Worth. It.
If you have money to spend, we have found that Walmart and Menards offer the cheapest clear bins. From that point, there is a lot of sorting involved (a good job for a student assistant!).
We’d like to share with you our fully editable labels, which you can print for free or use for category inspiration! The categories currently flying off the shelves in our classrooms are LGBTQIA+ and Manga!
What are some strategies you use to organize your own classroom libraries? What genres are popular among your students? Let us know in the comments!
