Day 6: Grudgeball Review Game Over First Week Info
After five days of new classes, teachers, and classmates, it's easy for my students to forget what we went over during our first couple of school days. That's why I like to have a review game to help my students remember our procedures, course information, and what they've learned about their teacher!
My students love a good game of Grudgeball. It's super engaging, holds all students responsible, and allows them to shoot some hoops. What's not to love? To read more about Grudgeball, read this blog post from the teacher who started it all! (You don't need a Nerf ball and basket to play, either. A wadded up piece of paper and a trash can will do just fine.)
I put students in groups of about four and then the groups take turns answering questions that review all the important information we've gone over in the past five days. These might be questions from my "Two Truths and One Lie About the Teacher" slideshow, questions from the syllabus or classroom procedures, and I even like to throw in silly wild card questions like "What is a group of flamingoes called?" (answer: a flamboyance!)
The winning group gets a small prize (think candy or stickers), and everybody has been reminded of the key points I want them to remember at the beginning of the year. We're ready to roll!
